Bio & Career Timeline
Matt Mundt grew up as a 90’s Christian music kid who knew every lyric to the latest dcTalk album and might have worn a WWJD bracelet for a moment in time. In 2000, CRISTA Ministries (parent organization of KCMS, Spirit 105.3) launched one of the first Christian rock music streaming-only radio stations. Matt had the unique opportunity to intern and begin his radio & digital journey. (Remember Real Player and Windows Media Player?)
Matt created some videos for the sales team at KCMS which opened the door for him to become their part-time webmaster/digital marketer while he attended the University of Washington. (Go Dawgs!) Upon graduating, Matt’s radio career and experience took off as he was promoted to the full-time webmaster, Saturday evening co-host, and concert/events/promotions assistant alongside Mike Tedesco. Around 2003 Matt had his first opportunity to interact and learn from Good Ratings’ consultant Alan Mason. This would not be the last time their paths crossed.
In 2005 Matt was awarded the NRB award for “Best Radio Station Website” and KCMS continued to grow their digital presence alongside the monumental ratings success and growth in Seattle. However, the record label world came calling. In 2007 Matt joined the Tooth & Nail family and worked with the CCM artists on BEC Recordings creating some of the first-ever lyrics videos for artists like Jeremy Camp, Kutless, KJ-52, Jadon Lavik, Bebo Norman & Hawk Nelson. This was the early days of Facebook marketing when you could grow an artist’s Facebook page by 50k-100k “likes” by doing an organic promotion and sell CDs through a nicely designed and managed Myspace page! Awe, the good ole days.
If you take a quick scan of Matt’s LinkedIn profile, you’ll notice a trend. Radio always calls him back. In 2010 he continued growing and refining his digital marketing, digital content, and social media expertise for Spirit 1053, KCMS. This caught the eye of Steve Strout and the Provident Label Group (Casting Crowns, Third Day, Brandon Heath, and Tenth Avenue North) in Nashville. Matt accepted a digital marketing role with the primary objective of creating and providing useful digital content and promotions to Christian radio stations across the nation to help increase album sales, streams, and single adds.
But, once again the radio bug bit. Matt moved out to California and joined Alan Mason and the talented team at the Education Media Foundation. (K-LOVE & Air1 radio) From 2013 to 2018 Matt helped lead the growth of key social media channels, digital content strategy, website strategy and optimization, app/streaming strategy and podcasts.
It was during this at the Education Media Foundation where he began focusing more time and attention on the craft of storytelling and marketing to complement his already strong technical expertise and curiosity.
In 2018 Matt produced, edited, and launched an original podcast series for K-LOVE radio called Hope Sounds which reached #2 on the iTunes charts and fueled his passion for the podcasting medium. Matt and his wife created and hosted the Engaging Story marriage podcast in 2016 with the goal of strengthening Christian marriages through the art of great storytelling. Matt has been a speaker at the Podcast Movement conferece and helped launch multiple podcasts (including the Brant & Sherri Oddcast and Coach Rick Pitino’s “The Pitino Press.”)
If your goals are to grow your fundraising efforts through digital marketing and digital advertising, great news, Matt has spent the past 3 years using his digital marketing experiences for the international non-profit, CURE International. He discovered a new passion and skill using digital marketing and paid social media tactics to help gain, retain and re-activate donors. He doubled CURE’s #GivingTuesday results in 3 consecutive years and helped increase the recurring donor base through radio partnerships and fundraising events.
Today Matt blends his love for creating content, marketing, broadcast media, data, and technology to deliver a comprehensive digital perspective and plan for his clients. His goal is to help Christian media organizations and nonprofits achieve their clearly defined goals by implementing a multi-channel digital marketing plan that syncs up and aligns with key departments like Programming, Sales, and Fundraising.
